We also shoot on High Key first as it’s what people are used to seeing, but after about 30mins I tend to go all creative and find most people like the results.

Is the brilliant white background going out of fashion or will it always be a favourite?

Looking at the two images below,  the first I found on the web, whilst looking for a description on the process of dried apricots for a design we are doing. The second is a shot DK Capture did for a food company looking to market their product further.

If you sold dried fruit which one is going to sell your company?

If your investing your hard earned money into a company you love and breath, why wouldn’t you invest in marketing your company properly?

A funny comment I saw on FB today….

“wow you take nice photos… Of course that great camera helps”

“yes and you make nice cakes, of course you have a wonderful mixing bowl”

Thats right the fun party photos at the end !

Well, I cant promise all the action from the movies but we do have plenty of fun and  having booked in 3 party shoots last week for Hen and Birthday shoots ,  DK Capture must be doing something right.

I always ask how did they hear about our party shoots….because we don’t advertise them !

Friends of friends and word of mouth…do a good job people talk about it and they become sales people for your company.

Remember… Never too old to “Party Hard” !

You never know what goes on in these marketing meetings!

DK Capture have shot many portfolio updates for White Flame in Winton for their online advertisement. Even if you don’t like tattoos you can’t argue some of the art work people have nowadays is amazing…and the photography isn’t too bad either

When DK Capture launch our “Its All About You” makeover shoots I didn’t think it would be as popular as it has been.

Well with everyone taking photos on their phones…and thinking  it doesn’t look as good as the glossy mags I’ll get some professional ones done, it’s no surprise.

I like a rubbish camera phone makes us Pro Photographers look even better….It’s all about the lighting  ;)

Its always good fun when we get dancers and dance groups in the studio.   Single shots look great but when you put a few together they just have soo much more impact !

Which is why I’m no longer going to think about things to Blog!

I’m going to submit an Image a week that takes my fancy be it fun, odd, sad or just a random interesting image taken on my phone!

Starting with…..A spoon, not very sexy I know but if I said the fruit on the spoon was refreshed in Calvados Brandy and has an alcohol count of 5%   your asking  is that still one of my 5 a day ?

However…

I rent equipment from time to time when a client is after certain look for their product and I rent tripods and Lens to meet the needs of the shoot.   I found myself renting the same type of tripod again and again so I thought I would save up my pennies and buy one!

NOW I know why I rented they cost a small mortgage…some costing £1000+

So off to eBay I go to get a second-hand bargain… I typed in the manufacture I was after and noticed this little company kept popping up… Red Snapper.  The equipment they sold looked good but one thing worried me…the price…too cheap…or was it good value ?

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for but rather than disregard them straight away I gave them a call as they were based in the UK.

I couldn’t have called a more friendly company, they explained they were a small firm in the UK and their supplier was the same as some of these big makes but they didn’t have the same over heads and could sell them cheaper.   I was impressed with the sales but would they live up to their word?

Well I brought one… RS-324 & RSH-12 Head and I must say it’s fantastic!   A very sturdy piece of kit and the ball head is very smooth, perfect for my product shots.

If you’re looking for a tripod either for travel, landscape or professional use why not give them a try.

I still love taking photos of man’s best friend.  We quite often have family groups in the studio and we always encourage the families to bring Rover with them as they are family too.   Having the dog around also helps relax the family allowing me to capture natural shots.  Mind you mum always looks on tender hooks making sure Rover doesn’t pee on anything expensive…trust me we have had a horse in the studio and horse pee is a BIG problem!

Studio photography is always good fun with pets, but I do love to get outside and capture dogs at play.  I often take clients to Moors Valley or Canford Heath and wander around the countryside capturing the playfulness and mischievous side of our four legged friends.

How do you do it? I quite often get asked this question, it’s simple and here are a few tips to take photos out and about.

Camera.

I’m afraid a “point and shoot” camera will get you the odd portrait but most compact cameras have too much shutter lag…that’s the time between pressing the button, having a cup of tea and then the camera taking the picture.  If you’re interested in photography or would like better photos an SLR camera is a must.  You don’t need a big expensive one just get what you can afford.

Settings…keep it simple.

Let’s face it; you don’t want to have to think about all sorts of camera setting such as aperture, shutter, ISO, white balance etc. as your climbing over rocks trees and jumping over puddles.  Turn everything to Auto!  I know I know it’s not very professional of me to say so, but concentrate on taking a photo….worry about all the techi stuff when you turn pro.

What Lens.

If you have a 135-300 zoom lens, that would be perfect, but if you don’t have one, don’t worry you’ll just have to get that bit closer to the action.  If you’re thinking of buying one take a look on eBay for a cheap deal…don’t buy an expensive one until you have had some practice.

Your Dog.

Don’t worry about getting images straight away…walk around the field or woods for 30mins get them to let off some steam and calm down before shooting.  The best way to get images of dogs foraging is to hide sausage under leaves and think about investing  in a duck or funny noise whistle, but only use it when you’re taking their photos as they will get used to the noise and we want them to  wonder what on earth that funny noise is and pop their heads up for a look around..and when they do…shooooot ! But be ready and be quick.

Golden Rule!

Always, always, come down to their level , just like when you’re shooting children.   You need to have at least one knee on the ground at all times.

Remember practise makes perfect……but what is perfect?

Surely if you like the photo and it makes you smile….that’s perfect!

Have fun and don’t just keep images on your PC or on Facebook, print them off, hang them on the wall…you will smile at them every time you pass
